Devon earned her Pilates certification through The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. She is proud to have been a founding board member of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), a studio owner for 10 years, and an active “Pilates ambassador” for over 20 years. In the early 1990’s, Devon’s goal was simply to combat the mental and physical effects of stress from her full-time job in corporate sales. After years of teaching aerobic dance and body conditioning, plus a background in competitive figure skating, she certainly noticed Pilates’s improvement on her posture, strength, and stamina. Thrice weekly one-on-one sessions were worth every penny! However, it was the added positive focus, clear-headedness, and sense of physical and emotional balance, somehow different from any other exercise modality, that was transformative and life-changing. Devon strongly believes that the positive impact of a thoughtful, consistent, Pilates practice is cumulative over a lifetime, akin to a lifelong partnership, and a main factor contributing to a higher quality of life. With a daughter heading off to college, she feels privileged to be able to reorganize her days to teach and continue to learn Pilates alongside as many like-minded people as possible.
Kate was a competitive swimmer when she was younger. She started Ballet dance as a cross-training mechanism for swimming and loved it. Eventually, she left competitive swimming for competitive dance. She danced all throughout middle and high school. During her later years in high school, she was introduced to Pilates as a form of cross-training for dance. After a severe ankle injury, she used Pilates to build strength and rehabilitate her body. This is when she fell in love with Pilates and realized what a vital form of movement it is for people, whether they're struggling with physical limitations or not. She went on to major in Dance Performance at Florida State University where she continued her Pilates training in tandem with her study of anatomy, kinesiology, and dance. She graduated in 2015 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance. Since then, she worked under the guidance of William Michael Cooper as a choreographer, dancer, and teacher with the Contemporary South Dance Company in Alabama. There, she started her Club Pilates Teacher Training Certification Program of which she graduated November 2018. She is now General Manager of Club Pilates Bethesda and a certified Pilates instructor.
