Who doesn’t love the endless cycles of shaving, plucking, waxing, or applying harsh depilatory creams in the quest to get rid of unwanted hair? Why not get rid of the hair permanently with laser hair removal at Kaizen MediSpa? We use the latest in technology for our laser hair removal treatments — the Lumenis LightSheer Laser. It keeps you comfortable while keeping your unwanted hair very uncomfortable.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The key to effective permanent hair removal is the hair follicle. Damage the hair follicle and it can’t grow new hair. That’s why shaving, plucking, waxing, and harsh creams don’t stop the hair from coming back. None of them affects the follicles where the hair grows.
We set the wavelength of the LightSheer Laser to match the color of your unwanted hair. Then short pulses of laser energy are delivered onto the targeted hair. The melanin in the hair absorbs the laser light energy, which instantly converts to heat. This heat travels down the hair shaft into the hair follicle where it damages or fully destroys the follicle. Now that follicle can’t grow new hair.
What Makes The Lumenis LightSheer Laser Better For Hair Removal?
We use the Lumenis LightSheer Laser at Kaizen because it effectively removes the hair and keeps your skin cool. The LightSheer features a patented cooling system that helps protect your skin while still delivering high levels of follicle-bashing laser energy. As the laser energy is pulsed, the LightSheer handpiece simultaneously works to remove the heat from the epidermis before, during, and after application of the laser light energy. Its advanced technology is also safe for all skin tones, which isn’t the case with many other lasers used for hair removal.
Where Can I Have Laser Hair Removal Done?
Thanks to the cooling ability of the Lumenis laser, the question really is where can’t you have unwanted hair removed? The only exceptions are the nostrils, inside the ears, and on the male genitalia.
At Kaizen, the most popular laser hair removal areas with our patients are the bikini line, the underarms, the sideburns, the upper lip, the back, and the legs. Some women opt for more Brazilian type removal on the pubic area. In addition to the back and shoulders, some men opt to remove all chest hair. Those with lighter facial hair growth even opt for laser beard removal.
With the few exceptions listed above, there’s really no limit to where you can remove unwanted hair for good at Kaizen.
What Do I Need To Do To Prepare For My Laser Hair Removal Session?
There are just a few steps to take to make your laser hair removal as effective as possible.
Stay out of the sun
It helps the laser wavelength direct the optimal amount of energy onto the hair if the hair color and skin color are quite different. The LightSheer Laser can remove hair on different skin tones, but it is most effective when there is contrast. So, we ask our patients to not tan or darken their skin for at least one month prior to their appointment.
No plucking
Don’t wax or pluck your unwanted hair for 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment. This step ensures that the hair is actively anchored in the hair follicles. You can still shave, as that doesn’t have any effect on the hair follicles.
Shave the night before
Finally, the night before your treatment closely shave the area with the unwanted hair (again, this leaves plenty of hair shaft down in the follicle to absorb the laser energy).
What Can I Expect After My Laser Hair Removal Session?
Occasionally, we have a patient who is surprised to see the hair still there after their session. They thought the laser literally zapped the hair. That’s not how it works; the energy used is way too low for that. Plus, that would only remove the shaft, similar to shaving, and the follicle would still be intact and growing hair.
When you return home after your session at Kaizen MediSpa, your hair will still be there and your skin will be slightly red. This can seem disappointing — after all, your results with waxing and the like provide instant results. But the vehicle for the unwanted hair growth is now damaged or destroyed. Without the follicle to anchor them, the hairs will begin to fall out over the following days. You need to be patient and not pluck or scrub the hairs to accelerate their falling out. Let them do it on their timeframe.
After a few days, it will look like there is new hair growing on the treatment areas. This can be even more disconcerting, but it’s actually a sign of success. These are the hairs where the follicles have been damaged. Hair that was down below the skin in the follicles is being pushed out and shed.
Remember, not all of the hair in the treatment area will fall out. The hair that was in the growth phase will, but other hairs that weren’t will still be there. Usually the affected hair will be about 20 percent of the total during that session.
